Advice for doa runs.
Well I finally am in need of some money and I would go do cathedral of flame runs but my monk isn't in gw:en and wouldn't have light of deldrimor. So from the looks of it some doa runs would be the best bet for making money.
I have the max norn and lightbringer titles, but pretty much have 0 experience besides the solo sliver armor/ trapper teams.
So I was wondering if people had some general advice as to what to do/ not to do and ursan groups specifically for doa.
I would be a paragon.
Edit. Sorry if this is supposed to be in farming, but figured since it's just general advice to doa it'd be in the nf forum.

Aha: Well job A) Make sure your Ursan is as high as possible. PuGs typically dont allow less than 8
B) When your the newbie to DoA Runs: Follow the "leader" : and listen to him
C) You at some point will need consets: these are grail+armour+celerity

you can pretty much fake it in ursan groups even if you have no idea whats going on
do what everyone does, take quests when everyone else takes em too
use the "targeting: priority target" key
as long as you dont get out of line nobody will even notice you

Wait for some pug to "LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOYY!!" in, then press ctrl+t, then press 1. Repeat and collect loot.
Seriously, it's that simple.

It really is that simple. As a first timer you should just wait for others to lure groups and attack the target..well.. attack as in spam skill 1,2. It's really easy as long as your monks can heal a bit.
Try to make sure you have r10 Norn and r8 LB and have a consumable set. Leave groups that don't even make sure to count how many consumable sets they have.

yup i faked my first time to. best tip dont ask stupid questions remain silent when a group is forming.
when your in the area remain silent and pretend to be a lazy bastard just follow the group. y i say this cos when some noob monks(so called very experienced monks) or even ursans discover there are noobs in team they will sometimes leave. but thats a rare occasion.
and under no condition take quest in there they only give you exp anyway whats the point.
and yeah get some consumables first.

Good advice here. I'm also new to DOA. My warrior has been in the area for less than a month. I'm currently a rank 9 ursan and rank 8 lb. I started trying to get into teams when I was rank 8 ursan and rank 7 lb and found that it wasn't too difficult.
Faking it actually works very well. I warped into town as a clueless newbie (not a noob, but new to this area). Within 10 minutes I learned that a "conset" is required, but still did not know what that was.
I joined a team that was doing foundry only and the leader asked if I had a conset. I lied. I said yep, let me grab it from storage. I then ran over to storage, withdrew 7k and bought from the player that had been spamming "selling conset 7k!!" for the past 10 minutes. Now I knew what a conset was and discovered that I can craft them myself cheaper.
We warped into foundry and I said I'd use the set. This had the effect of making me loved and adored by the other ursans so hopefully they'd overlook any minor screwups.
We had a really good leader and the entire group was good natured. The leader advised us when not to take quests and when to not move from the corner so I just did as told and everything worked out.
Afterwards I joined a full run group and again brought a conset. I had a 1 minor mishap from my ignorance but overall it went well.
Here are some newbie notes:
- You can't do mallyx until you complete the other 4 areas. Much like Slaver's Exile. So don't join any Mallyx groups.
- You can safely take quests at the start of Foundry, City and Gloom. Do not take the quest at the start of Stygian Veil. Wait until the entire group is in position and the leader will elect one person to take the quest.
- Do not take the quest from Tellyx (sp?) in foundry. The group must clear the area first.
- Towards the end of Ravenheart Gloom several "The Darkness" monsters will spawn. Killing one of them releases 5-6 Earth Tormentors. Do not kill a bunch of "The Darkness"es. You will quickly be overwhelmed with Earth Tormentors. Kill 1 darkness then all the tormentors and you'll be fine.
- Ditto for the end of Stygian Veil. I can't remember the name of the sticks that pop up, but each time one is killed a screenful of stygian monsters pop up.
- Always target the enemy that your leader calls and if he asks everyone to stand "here", then stand there. It's important.
- Ok, so you're ready for mallyx? Great. Once you've cleared the preliminary waves and the door to mallyx's lair is open you are expected to unequip your weapon. Do it. Go in with just a shield. Monks should not use any enchants at all and melee characters should just use Ursan skill #1. Nothing else. Mallyx goes down very easy this way.

Hey guys,
I have been doing quite some DoA Ursan runs and I have a remark about the "stay silent" attitude.
First off: I totally understand that is not easy to get into groups if they spot you are a new to the area.
But: I would take anybody (especially warriors with rank 10 Ursan and 8 Lightbringer) into my group. And here comes my point: When all are set up, titles and consets are checked (in trade window) I always ask "Is someone new here? No shame - just say so before hand please." - The purpose of this question is that I can give clearer instructions and help those people understand the area (which is easy). If no one speaks up I expect them to do the right things. You can cut yourself short if you don't answer to an upright question with an honest answer.
Good luck to all ya and have fun,
Timebandit

I have been doing some doa runs of late too. I was new to the doa runs but did not have much trouble, after the first run I was waiting for people to catch up even when I'm the monk. well anyway just pay attention to what people do and you'll be fine.

DoA ursan-way is real easy. Just do a few runs in nm before advancing to hm, so as to learn where to wall etc. Lots of good tips in this topic. Here's a few more.
Be careful on who you follow. Usually good groups have a designated puller, so just stay with the rest of the "wall" and let the puller do his work alone.
Large toucher groups in stygian veil can be nasty, especially in hardmode. Best way to overcome this is to "chain-KD". In other words, don't use that aoe-kd skill untill you see the mobs get back up again. Keep them grounded.
Grab a zealous weapon of fortitude with +5energy and a decent shield. (Green shields dropped in doa work great.. ^_^). Could also bring a staff or a focus item along for added energy (-15/-1). I also prefer Suvivor gear on the armor.
In addition to ursan, bring atleast one res. Several pve skills also help alot. LB's Gaze and Pain inverter are good to pick off unreachable mobs on the walls in the city. Asuran summons help. And a mesmer mantra (of flame or lightning) combined with dwarven stability is great.
(here's my warrior setup ^_^ -> OQUTM04SVyoUW8A4u0wKuZwSAAA )

Sorry but I gotta leave a off topic note here:
You want +5 armor (defense mod) and not +30 HP for an ursan especially with all those consumables up.

I have one more surgestion.
Ask around at friends (or guildies who know you well) if any is in need of an ursan for a DoA team.
Since they are friends you don't have to lie about your experience there.
However, they will help you in the team if they think they can trust you.
This will give you some extra credit as newb, since trust is what makes people shy of taking new players.
In the area it's easy.
You are new, don't touch anything and don't walk where others have not walked yet. If you are not sure about something, ask.
It works the same in all areas where you are new.

well, I'm new to DoA too. I started 2 days ago and got my armbrace. Nobody cares if you're newbie or not. Just follow and ask if you're not sure.(rule apply to everywhere else)
